Hankyul (managing partners Kyungwoo Lee, Byungyong Ahn, and Sik Ahn) and Class (managing partners Chan-Hyun Hwang and Young-Chan Nam) signed an MOU for a merger in the grand conference room of Class’s Yeoksam-dong office on January 16, 2023.
Hankyul, a mid-sized firm notable for its success in corporate practice, M&A, construction, labor, and finance since its founding in 1997, and Class, a firm noted for its astounding growth since its founding in 2018, have decided to pursue a merger. The two law firms found common ground on the merger last year and began advanced talks late last year. By signing the MOU, the firms agreed to conclude the talks at an early date and formally launch the consolidated entity during the first half of the year.
Significant synergy is anticipated from the merger of Hankyul and Class, given their strength in consulting and litigation, respectively. The newly formed law firm is expected to find itself among the largest ten firms in Korea in terms of number of attorneys.
